Know Your Kindred – Joe “Boot” Hill

Name: Joe “Boot” Hill
Clan: Assamite antitribu
Generation: 7th
Embraced: 1881

A tall, lean gunslinger from the old west, Joe “Boot” Hill became a vampire after getting into an argument with a fellow named Bernard del Gado. Joe was tired of hearing Bernard’s boastful remarks, so he shot him in the chest. But Bernard got up and reminded Joe it was rude to shoot an unarmed man. So Joe shot him again and mopped up the floor with his head.

Bernard took it poorly and dragged Joe from the back of his horse. He went a half mile before accepting Joe’s apology. By that time Joe had lost most of his teeth and a good portion of his nose. The two came to a truce and after Joe healed from his injuries, Bernard Embraced and buried him for the Creation Rites.

Joe still bears the scars from the horse incident, but from a short distance Joe’s still a handsome man. His jet blue eyes will stop a man in his tracks.  No longer carrying six shooters, Joe prefers two Mac 10s and a Fiachi Law-12. Joe follows the code of the Old West, right down to keeping his well-trained horse retainer around.

Despite being a ruthless killer, Joe is very polite, holding the door for a lady and tipping his hat to anyone who recognizes him.  Joe won’t spit in public and treats even those he is about to kill with proper respect.  For Joe, manners are everything.

He earned his nickname “Boot” as a result of what he does to Kindred when they don’t listen to reason. Joe doesn’t believe in killing Kindred unnecessarily, but he will.  Today his gang rides around Mexico, making sure the land is safe for the Sabbat.  They’ve robbed banks, whipped up lynch mobs and destroyed whole towns in pursuit of their goals.

Joe and his gang especially like to hunt down werewolves and watching them burn when he fills them with silver bullets. He knows the ways of the Garou better than most Kindred and knows better than to wrestle with a werewolf without a gun (a lesson re-enforced when his pal Bernard was torn to shreds by an angry werewolf pack).

He is the Dominion of the Black Hand in Mexico City. Joe is very loyal to the Sabbat and expects the same from his associates. Everyone in Mexico knows Joe and no one ever gives him any trouble.

Joe is quite tall, standing 6 feet 4 inches in height.

Know Your Kindred – Owain Evans, The Wanderer

Name:  Owain Evans, The Wanderer

Clan:  Ventrue antitribu
Generation:  Maybe 6th
Embrace:  1053

Owain Evans has the power to heal others with his blood.  He obtained this ability after he drank the blood of Joseph of Arimathea centuries ago. But he did not understand the true nature of this power until 1999 when the Kindred world was in the grip of a mysterious blood curse.

This blood curse was striking at Kindred, creating an uncontrollable hunger that would never go away, no matter how much the vampire tried to quench their thirst, they would still feel starved.  Eventually the curse would trigger the Beast within them to rise up, until they were completely lost to it.

After discovering his power and understanding its origin, Owain became known as the Wanderer, and he traveled around the world seeking to cure any and all Cainites from the curse.

Owain is originally from a small Welsh kingdom called Rhufoniog.  After emerging from torpor in the 17th century, he came to America where he became a prominent, but unobtrusive member of Atlanta’s Kindred community.

Know Your Kindred – Spider Killer

Name:  Spider-Killer
Clan:  Ravnos
Generation:  5th
Embrace:  Unknown

Very little is known about the vampire called Spider-killer.  He haunts the cities and wastes of the American Southwest, wreaking chaos and destruction wherever he travels.  His mastery of illusions is well known and very powerful.  Many vampires have met their end trying to destroy him.

The earliest reports of Spider-killer date back to 1894.  His goals are hard to understand from his reported actions, but it would seem his favorite targets are Setites and Mexican Sabbat, who he repeatedly and ingeniously disgraces.

His path wanders as far south as Mexico and as far west as California.  Rumors say he travels with other supernatural creatures, like Werewolves and magi.  The Ravnos elders think he may be a remnant of the “Ravnos Neve” – new, more idealistic Ravnos who allied themselves with Native Americans during their unsuccessful war with white settlers.

Some believe he is not Ravnos at all, but one of the Nuwisha, a legendary breed of coyote shapeshifters.

Know Your Kindred – Tsunda

Name: Tsunda
Clan:  Laibon
Generation: Unknown
Embrace:   Unknown

Tsunda was the magaji of a sizable territory in Kenya.  His domain was granted to him by the Guruhi and circumstances had left him with a land populated by younger Laibon who were unable to influence him.  Even the elders representing the Kholo (the local advisory council made up of the eldest members from each of the African clans) were mere children compared to Tsunda.

Tsunda was a bloodletting bastard, accustomed to violence and fond of dangerous demonstrations of power before the mortals.  His actions made him unpopular with the Guruhi.  Tsunda was abruptly dismembered before Laibon witnesses by a large lion.   It is said such things do not happen by accident.

The domain is now held by one of the youngest magaji, Kisha, who has since been in frequent contact with the Guruhi.

Know Your Kindred – Yasmin the Black

Name:  Yasmin the Black
Clan:  Tremere antitribu
Generation:  7th
Embrace:  1958

Yasmin was an archaeology student working on an excavation site in Lebanon when disaster struck.  Her party’s dig was financed by a British Tremere antitribu named Marnius.  He was using the archaeologists to uncover the tomb of Sukhmet, an ancient Follower of Set.  The group found the tomb and Marnius planned to reward them with death.  But as his packmates began killing the mortals, Sukhmet arose from torpor and attacked the Sabbat war party.

He would have destroyed them all, but Yasmin staked him with a shovel. Marnius seized the opportunity to drain Sukhmet of all his blood, until there was nothing left but ash.  He then turned and Embraced Yasmin, sealing her in the tomb with the other archaeologists.  The next night Yasmin awoke with Sukhmet’s and Marnius’ blood flowing through her veins.  She devoured her coworkers and dug her way to the surface where Marnius awaited.

For many years Yasmin traveled with Marnius, developing her Thaumaturgical skills.  During this time Yasmin met Ezekiel.   At first she disliked him, but soon grew to understand the Serpent and joined his Black Hand pack, hoping to learn more about who Sukhmet really was.  She hopes that Ezekiel will one day become the Archbishop of Montreal, so she will be able to join the Montreal Librarians and learn the full history of Sukhmet.

Yasmin went missing in 1998 after her clanmate, Jacob the Glitch, committed suicide by walking into the daylight.  The event happened right infront of Yasmin and it left her withdrawn and fearful that Gehenna was approaching.  Her packmates tried to reassure her, but she was hysterical; everywhere she looked, she saw signs of Gehenna.  During the day she dreamed that someone was calling out to her.  The dreams became more vivid and lifelike.  She begged Ezekiel to chain her to her haven, but it was not enough.  One night Ezekiel found the chains snapped and Yasmin missing.  On the walls she had written in blood “… and those who eat heart’s blood will flourish.”

Yasmin likes to play up her mystic image.  She wears dark-hooded robes with symbols and markings.  She is a mysterious and exotic beauty.  Her flame red hair contrasts with her almost yellow eyes, which she never blinks.

Know Your Kindred – Szechenyi Jolán, Mother of Horrors

Name:  Szechenyi Jolán, Mother of Horrors
Clan:  Tzimisce
Generation: 6th
Embrace:  1150

Jolán is one of the most loyal defenders of the Tzimisce clan.  She will defend it on any matter no matter what.  She does this because she is ashamed of her lineage.  She comes from the Vlaszy family – Hungarian revenants who rebelled and were destroyed.  Ever since her kin’s destruction Jolán has strived to prove herself to the Sabbat and her clan.

She is one of the most knowledgeable experts of Tzimisce history and tradition.  She is nicknamed the Mother of Horrors because she helped develop a purely discipline-based method of generating the terrible vozhd war ghouls.

Jolán supervises the breeding of Mexico City’s revenants.  But her great work is collecting children born with major birth defects.  She brings them to a tiny hamlet in the mountains southeast of Mexico City.  There are about 60 of these deformed adoptees there, subjected to her blood bond.  She corrects the deformities of some of the adoptees so they can farm and support the others.  The strongest and healthiest grow up to become her ghoul bodyguards.  On rare occasions she will Embrace one of them.  These childer are her coven and she will destroy any Canite who enters her village.  Jolán protects her children and her children protect her.

She collects these deformed children out of a belief that they are the best candidates to produce revenants, which would posses a greater potential for Vicissitude.  She hopes to one day capture a werewolf or other shapeshifter and breed it into her flock, so it will unlock the secret of changing the human form into the perfect mutability.  Jolán believes this achievement will establish her as a paragon of her clan.

Jolán prefers to look young and beautiful.  Mostly human, but with some differences.  Her body has avian wings and the legs of a harpy.  Her hair often has a snake-like Medusa appearance.  She seldom wears more than a simple white robe.  Jolán also keeps a half-dozen ghoul bodyguards nearby, which she reshapes to look like Greek-god icons of masculine beauty, or semi-human mythological creatures.

Know Your Kindred – Huitzilopochtli

Name:  Huitzilopochtli (aka Shaitan)
Clan:  Baali
Generation:  4th
Embraced:  4500 BC

Throughout history there have been several who claimed to be Shaitan, but they have all been charlatans. Even Nergal used the name “Shaitan” in a failed attempt to awaken a slumbering demon lord.  Truth be told there are many different tales of Shaitan and his actions; some of these stories contradict each other.

Originally a slave born in the Second City, Shaitan was so beautiful that he was elevated to favored servant by the Antedeluvian, Cappadocius.  After he was Embraced, Shaitan was found to have been consorting with the Children of Lilith, a direct violation of Caine’s commandments, so Shaitan and his followers were banished from the Second City.

Shaitan went east and established his own city in Kala-At-Shergat.  It was then that Shaitan met Baal, a greedy and powerful demon.  Shaitan swore loyalty to Baal, wanting to get revenge against the Cainites who mistreated him.  Shaitan and his followers began to call themselves Baali, and they made great sacrifices to Baal and did as he command.

Eventually the Second City fell and a wave of Brujah, Assamites and Cappadocians fled to Shaitan’s lands.  They launched an assault on Shaitan’s city and easily overtook it.  But Baal had already warned Shaitan of the danger beforehand and they had vacated the city, leaving behind demonically-altered childer to be fodder for the battle.

The Baali went their separate ways and spread out to the far corners of the earth.  Shaitan came to South America, where he took on the name Huitzilopochtli, the Aztec god of war.  For the last 2,700 years he has played a major role guiding Mexico, either in person or by proxy.  He still rules the area, but hasn’t made a public appearance in over 400 years.

Melinda Galbraith, the Regent of the Sabbat, fell under the influence of Huitzilopochtli.  He slumbered beneath her city and slowly twisted her mind.  Melinda was in the process of bringing Huitzilopochtli out of torpor, when a group of Camarilla vampires interrupted the ritual.  A major earthquake and explosion occurred as a result, killing thousands. Huitzilopochtli disappeared, having either been destroyed or returned to his unending sleep.

Huitzilopochtli stands over 8 feet tall.  His infernal activities have changed his body and left him as hideous as a Nosferatu.  His skin is a translucent white with a texture similar to sandpaper.  His eyes are slitted like a reptile and his face has demonic characteristics, including ram horns growing out of his skull.  He is effectively a demon in a vampire’s body.
