Know Your Kindred – Baroque

Baroque looks like a tall, handsome black man wearing a dapper white suit.  He is completely bald and speaks with a Jamaican accent.  He is friendly to everyone and laughs in a booming, good-natured way.  But this image is false.  Baroque’s physical appearance is really an illusion covering the wizened old Tibetan vampire named Shih Hsu

Shih Hsu was a bully, sadist and rapist.  He was a predator from birth.  A minor death-mage, he terrorized his village and then his entire province.  By the time he was 60, he was considered to be the most evil man in Tibet.  With his wealth from banditry, he built a fortress for himself in the Himalayas where his deeds brought him to the attention of the Samedi named Morlock.  Morlock admired Shih Hsu for his wickedness and offered him the Embrace.

After Morlock Embraced him and taught him all he knew, Shih Hsu flayed Morlock right down to his bones.  What Shih Hsu didn’t know was that Morlock was a member of the Eastern Black Hand and soon they came after Shih Hsu.

Barely able to escape their attack, Shih Hsu ran for safety and sold his soul to Anastagio’s Olde Time Lunar Carnival in exchangefor immediate escape and a new identity, thus “Baroque the Fortuneteller” was born.

Baroque possess a small jade artifact known as the Hand of the Yama Kings.  The Hand is powerful, allowing Baroque to control wraiths and granting him temporary entrance into the Shadowlands.

Know Your Kindred – Jorge De La Muerte

Name:  Jorge De La Muerte
Clan:  Samedi
Generation:  7th
Embrace:  1732

Jorge De La Muerte hates the Sabbat.  He is on a mission of revenge, for all the dead spirits that cry out to him.  He has infiltrated the Sabbat in Mexico City and has joined the Black Hand.  He acts as a spy for Baron Samedi and is learning all he can about the sect.

Jorge is a Remover for the Black Hand and a master of torture, so Jorge is as feared as any Kindred in Mexico City, but he doesn’t let that information leak unless it’s necessary.

Jorge is a shriveled stick of a man.  His skin peals and flakes away constantly and his eyes are sunken deep into the back of his head.  He usually wears sandals, black pants and a doctor’s lab coat.  He is never seen without his doctor’s bag full of autopsy equipment.

Know Your Kindred – Toy

Name:  Toy
Clan:  Samedi
Generation:  Unknown
Embraced:  1800

Imagine a rage-driven, decomposing monster without the capacity to express his fury due to missing limbs.  Toy is much, much worse.

The Samedi known as “Toy” was most likely Embraced as a joke.  Born with no arms or legs, he failed his Creation Rites and lay in torpor in his grave from 1800 to 1852.  When the old cemetery was dug up and moved in 1852, the Sabbat exhumed the vampires who failed their creation rites.  When Toy was found the Archbishop decided to put him in a toy chest with another vampire to undergo another test.  After an hour the chest was opened and they found Toy in a pool of blood.  They declared him the winner (and thus the nickname “Toy” stuck).

Toy is kept sealed in his box every night until feeding time.  Sometimes they use him to send neonates through their Creation Rites, but none have survived.

Toy is a quadriplegic.  Filth, blood, grime and chunks of flesh cake his face.  His mouth is filled with razor-like teeth.
